After losing the train connection in Paris what could explain it ?

Bye the way today I moved from Lille to Strasbourg but there was a connection in Paris that means the train arrives at Gare du Nord from Lille but the another one departs from Gare d'est just after 30 minutes but I didn't know it neither arrive at the second station in time so I lost the second train but at the end everything is all right  or I'm at Strasbourg :-)
