Mangue Seco

This tiny riverfront village was used as a set location for a brazilian soap about twenty year ago.

where there is a large beach to walk along with

Anyway if you become tired there are lots of shady places to rest but take some care of dropping coconut fruits :-)

But Earth could throw them on the dirty human being who let garbage on the earth.

Below some littery collected by a boring guy along the walk back

A journey to Mangue Seco

The post's title is just because it's not easy to reach Mangue Seco... at least for a independent tourist :-)

From Salvador, I took a bus to Indiaroba (about 5 hours) and suprisingly there is no bus to Pontal...so I hire a taxi to leave me at Pontal port. But the locals said me if I arrived later the price could be double.

After that I waited for a while waiting for other people to share a boat with me but now is low season then nobody appeared. Then I opened my guide and I called to Pousada Suruby that sent a boat to pick me up :-) and Real river was sailed.

Tired due to the hard journey I rest with the foot on the top :-) ....

....in order to save energy to climb up sand dune and enjoyed one of the most beatifull sunset I've seen

Before being dependent of Coco Espumante...

... it's better get out :-)

But not before tasting Donana which is another Marcelo's tip... hmmm!!!.... until now I don't know how a candango knows lots of Bahia. This place is located at Brotas neighborhood and it's not so visible maybe only some easy riders know but from now on me and you :-)
Most of times I'm alergic to seafood but I tasted shrimp at tapioca but I don't know how to translate tapioca so you should find it out by yourself :-) and pay attention at the empty glass on the back ... no alcohol at all :-)

Finally, a stop at Mercado Modelo to buy a Bahia icon ... a turtle ... at least I guess so :-) Don't you know why ??? My king... I'm so tired to explain then come here and discover it by yourself :-)
The next stop will be Mangue Seco where I'm not sure if there is internet so if no more new posts it's due to this.

Afternoon in Itapuã

It's good to spend an afternoon in Itapuã

At the sun burns in the Itapuã sea

Listening to Itapuã sea

Speak of love in Itapuã

Probably, Vinicius de Moraes is shaking at his grave :-)

Broken photography machine

Then no pictures at all :-(
Because I'll try microsoft's steps to solve a problem :-)
First step: turn the machine off
Second step: turn the machine on
Decision step: if it doesn't work ..hmmmm!!! get out the room :-)
So I did and walked around Pelourinho again and if you don't believe you'll should it by
yourself :-)
Pelourinho is located in an irregular place so wherever you go you'll climb up and if you become hungry then a good place to stop is Mão Dupla at Santa Isabel street, 10 where a kindly waitress (Nice) works.
After lunching you keep passing by colorful colonial buildings and magnificent churches.
At the end you can stop at Café Conosco to be in touch with the world :-)

Easy walk...

... around Pelourinho and its cobblestone streets

below São Francisco Church... I guess :-)

Salvador

The arrival is at Bay of All Saints... and of Nearly All Sins :-) and it's not hard to find the reason out for the nickname

By taking Elevador Lacerda (Lacerda Elevator) that connects Cidade Baixa (Lower City) and Cidade Alta (Upper City) turn left on the exit and follow Marcelos' tip and drink coco espumante (coconut milkshake) while enjoying the view of bay

Boipeba Island

This worthwhile island

Tinharé on the right and Boipeba on the left

Hell or Heaven will depend on the point of view.... how about the same river below ? :-)

Beaches

By following Rua Caminho da praia (Beach pathway street) you'll reach Primeira Praia (First beach) which is a narrow one with a Lighthouse up but I keep recovering myself from the Triathlon so I didn't climp up :-)

In Segunda praia (Second beach) there are lots of restaurants and kiosks so you'll not be thirsty neither hungry ... perhaps broken :-)

On Terceira Praia (Third beach) , the boats let the village to make a tour around the island

Quarta praia (Forth beach) is the largest one and the picture below was taken approximately in the middle of it

Anyway, if you are tired you can hire a taxi :-)

Triathlon in Bahia

It has just been introduced a new model of triathlon in Bahia and, of course, I was one of .... hmmm!! to be honest I was the only competitor but it doesn't matter because as Coubertin said "The important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle" then I took it and I'll tell you how it was.

First, running by bus from Lençóis to Feira de Santana where the vehicle and route was changed toward Valença. It was so fast that I couldn't register it :-(

Second, sailing to Tinharé island

Last and hardest step, uphill walking

As a matter of fact I won and I was rewarded with fuel replacement at Rua Caminho das praias (Beach pathway street)

Frankly !!!!, Do you believe there is triathlon in Bahia ? :-)

A day off

With my feet hurting of hiking day after day I decided to take a day off just for wandering as the times goes by :-)

But please don't imagine it was an easy day because I should wash the dirty clothes, check my bank account, search for friends' email to borrow some money.... hey... hey, don't delete your messages :-)

Let me start by writing about the Casa da Geléia which is the hostel I was and where you can eat a breakfast with many kinds of jam together with the birds but I didn't take a picture of them because today I'm off then you should try by yourself :-)

During the day most activities are outside of the city so there aren't many people on the streets

But when you arrive starving at night there are some options to dinner at Rua das Pedras (Stones street)

If you want a dessert there is Pavê & Comê whose sounds means 'To see and to eat'

Finally, because I didn't trip up on any diamond, my next stop is Morro de São Paulo, see you later

Cachoeira da Fumaça (Smoke Waterfall)

It's considered the tallest waterfall in Brazil, according Lonely Planet.
And there are two ways to reach it and the easier one was chosen by me :-)
After a steep starting the path became plain and you could enjoy the view

This is one of the top view

it's also possible to find a rainbow

and also another view from the top

There is no pool on the path to take a bath but after the trek there is one where you can rest for a while :-)

The day after

Due to the hard day before I started the afternoon after with a massage at Little Waterfall

In order to reach the Springtime Fall

And finish the day with a look of the city from the Mirador

sexta-feira, 11 de setembro de 2009

Sossego

I was attracted by the track's name which means quiet in portuguese but about half of the track is on the rocks.
So when I arrived I realized the reason for its name.... because after reaching it anything is quiet :-)

On the way back you can recover yourself by slipping on the Escorregão

and/or swimming on the natural pools :-)
